Richard Barker From KHPT Attempts To Break World Ski Speed Record And Fails Miserably

Richard Barker from Kicking Horse Powder Tours has attempted to break the world speed ski record whilst being towed behind a vehicle, currently held by Graham Bell.
The attempt took place during The Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show this autumn.

Despite having widespread support from the winter sports industry and a backup team consisting of some of the most highly regarded members of the community – Richard failed at the last hurdle, he said at the end of the attempt:

Stop, I’m not doing it. It’s very very fast – I think I’ve learnt my lesson, Graham is an athlete and I’m a surveyor by trade. I’m going to stick to ski touring. It’s much nicer, slower and safer.

Graham Bell said:

Sorry Richard but that isn’t going to cut it, what was that, five miles an hour? Come on, you’re playing with the big boys now.

Su Moore, head of the British Snowsports Fund, said:

Richard has the opportunity to become one of the outstanding athletes of our generation.

Barker has suggested that he’ll be back next year with another record breaking challenge, but in the meantime, enjoy the short documentary film about his attempt here on YouTube: Failed World Speed Record.
