Ski Press Appointed As Media Representatives For The Ellie Soutter Foundation

Ski Press is delighted to announce the appointment to represent The Ellie Soutter Foundation to help with its media relations campaign during 2019.

Following the tragic passing of British snowboard athlete, Ellie, on her 18th birthday (July 25, 2018), her father Tony Soutter immediately started the foundation in her memory to help raise funds for other young wintersports athletes that need financial assistance to help them achieve their dreams.

The aim of the foundation is to help young people, not only to fund their athlete journeys, but also to help ensure they don’t fall into similar mental health traps that can result from the kind of pressure Ellie found herself in, ultimately leading to Ellie taking her own life in Les Gets, French Alps.

Since its launch, the foundation has quickly become an established name in the industry and continues to grow daily, both in funds and recognition.

Co-Founder of Ski Press, Rob Stewart, said:

What happened to Ellie was tragic and we all felt huge sympathy for her and her family when we heard the news about her death last summer. She was a highly talented athlete and her name was already out there as one of Britain’s bright young stars of the future. Tony Soutter and his team approached us to help them with their growing demands from the media and we are now proud to be associated with the foundation – mental health is such an important issue that we all need to take seriously and The Ellie Soutter Foundation is there to help potentially vulnerable young people avoid the kind of situation that Ellie found herself in.

Tony Soutter said:

I set up The Ellie Soutter Foundation just days after my daughter Ellie died, as I knew we could help the young, talented snowsports athletes of the future. Although Ellie was a ‘hot pick’, a ‘one to watch’ and a ‘future star of British snowboarding’, we, as a family, still struggled to get her the funding and sponsorship she needed to train and compete in a winter season. Ellie felt this pressure enormously and with the Foundation we hope to bridge the gap between talent and success. I’m delighted that Rob and the Ski Press team have offered to come on board to support the Foundation in these early stages and to help us reach the UK winter sports community.

Ski Press is available to help with press information, images and arranging interviews with Tony.

About Ellie And The Ellie Soutter Foundation

Ellie Soutter was one of the most progressive Junior Female Snowboard Athletes of Great Britain. Ellie became Vice Champion of the world in the Junior Freeride World Tour in 2017. She was winner of a Bronze medal for Team GB at the 2017 European Youth Olympics and was tipped to be one of GBs strongest contenders for the 2022 winter Olympics amongst other numerous podium finishes throughout Europe and the southern hemisphere.

As a junior athlete coming from a family without substantial wealth, Ellie often had to miss out on competing and training through lack of funds. She felt and understood the constant pressure to obtain the necessary funds for her training and events. A full season of required training to maintain this level of competition was in excess of £30,000 annually. At this time, as a Junior GB athlete, there is minimal or no funding for travel or accommodation and athletes have to pay a subscription for coaching.

Ellie’s family then decided to form The Ellie Soutter Foundation in her memory to help and assist other young winter athletes in similar circumstances.

    Company Information

The foundation’s aim is to help young athletes at all levels with funding for their journeys and ensure they receive the kind of support and training that can help identify mental health issues that can arise from the pressures they are often placed under and help prevent the situation that ultimately led to Ellie Soutter taking her own life on her 18th birthday.
