2020 HAT On Snow Courses Complete Trilogy Of Avalanche Safety Modules For Off-Piste Riders

Henry’s Avalanche Talk (HAT) has launched its 2020 winter season program of one and three day courses in the French resort of Val d’Isère.

  • Henry’s Avalanche Talk launches new season on snow training courses over one or three days.
  • Courses are based in Val d’Isère and compliment the UK based talks and transceiver training sessions.

They are an ideal steeping stone from the Essentials and In-Depth talk as well as the transceiver training sessions that take place during the autumn in the UK.

For recreational skiers or instructors looking to improve their skills and train for their mountain safety examinations, the courses provide training in terrain management, risk reduction methods and rescue techniques if the worst case scenario happens.

Courses take place during the week in Val d’Isère between Tuesday and Thursday throughout the winter season and are designed to maximise ‘ski time’ on the mountain and are all led by HAT founder Henry Schniewind, otherwise known as Mr Avalanche.

Schniewind said:

Our big focus is on applying the knowledge we have learned because evidence suggests that complacency is one of the biggest factors when it comes to getting caught in avalanches. Having a risk reduction framework and check list and more importantly, applying what’s on it, will mean that skiing off-piste doesn’t have to be any more dangerous than driving a vehicle on the road. If you don’t apply your knowledge, then off-piste skiing can be extremely dangerous. We teach people to avoid unnecessary errors in the same way a surgeon or soldier might use in their everyday work.
