Snowbility is an organisation that specialises in helping people of all ages with special needs and learning disabilities discover skiing and snowboarding.

The company was founded by Richard Fetherston, a qualified snowsports instructor, and is primarily based at The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead – an indoor snow facility that is open all year round. Today, they employ several qualified instructors who are specially trained to work with special needs pupils and lessons are either on a one to one basis or in group sessions. It’s the only dedicated special needs snowsports instruction organisation in the UK and helps people with a wide range of complex physical, psychological and mental health needs, including learning disabilities, autism, dyspraxia and deafness.

Pupils and their families now travel from around the UK to participate in lessons that run throughout the whole year, summer and winter. Snowbility allows students to benefit from a number of newfound skills that can be taken from the slopes to enhance everyday life including, social interaction, self-confidence, self-belief and increased self-esteem, concentration, motor skills, fitness levels, nutrition and diet, listening skills and motivation.

Many students progress to a level that enables them to travel to the mountains where they can continue to enjoy the benefits that skiing and snowboarding bring.
